Chris Matthews claimed the NWA Entertainment Championship at NWA Last Rites, defeating defending champion Christian Brooks and Tarzan in a Triple Threat match. The fourth contest on the Season 2 PLE card produced a decisive change at the top of the Entertainment division, with Matthews recorded as the winner and the new champion. The result carries particular weight for Matthews, who entered the match on an eight-match losing streak in recorded NWA competition. He had gone 2-8 across his first 10 recorded matches and was still seeking his first win of Season 2 before Last Rites. By winning the three-way, Matthews not only broke that run but also secured his first recorded championship reign. Brooks arrived as the established titleholder and the highest-ranked competitor in the field. In the overall snapshot recorded immediately before the match, Brooks stood No. 12 with a 78 overall rating, ahead of Tarzan at No. 29 and Matthews at No. 30. Brooks had previously held the Entertainment Championship during reign 83, as well as a recorded NWA Intercontinental Championship reign, but his Entertainment title changed hands in this contest. Tarzan was also looking to reverse difficult recent form. He entered with a four-match losing streak in recorded career results and an 0-3 Season 2 record. Neither Tarzan nor Brooks could prevent Matthews from emerging with the victory in a normal-rules Triple Threat conducted under the event’s five-star requirement and restricted-payback rules. Matthews leaves NWA Last Rites as the recorded NWA Entertainment Champion. Officially, the win is his first of Season 2 and ends an eight-match recorded losing streak while placing the championship in his hands for the first time.
